Welcome to North Transylvania Fire Rescue
The North Transylvania Fire Rescue Department has been serving the residents and visitors along the HWY 280 corridor between Henderson County and the access to the Blue Ridge Parkway since 1990. Since the station's first days in the early 90’s, it has continued to grow and improve throughout the years. From the times that the founding members were keeping trucks at their homes, to the new and modern 10,000 square foot facility that houses 11 pieces of apparatus of today, each improvement has been done to improve the quality of service and protection to the citizens of our district and the surrounding areas.
In January 2014 the Department hired their first full-time employee, and is now manned by a certified Firefighter/EMT throughout the week during the daytime hours of 7:30 to 5:30. Please feel free to stop by and ask the Firefighter on duty for a tour of the station, or to ask any questions that you may have. Our on-duty person will be glad to help you in any way.
When the paid staff is not there, all citizens can rest easy as there is a trained and certified staff of volunteers who dedicate their time to your health and safety. Department members are constantly training to improve the level of service offered, and the skills required, to be of assistance should an emergency arise. The staff and volunteers include seasoned firefighters - both in structural settings, and in wild land settings, as well as advanced medical personnel and specialized rescue technicians. Everyone is on standby 24 hours a day, every day, to assist with any emergency - medical, fire, automobile accidents, search and rescue operations, hazardous materials, and more. If you're involved in an emergency on the north end of the county, a North Transylvania Fire Rescue member will likely be on the scene to provide care.
2012 and 2013 were exciting years for us and the citizens of our district. Hard work and tons of hours went into an effort to improve the Department’s fire protection rating. When the station began in the 90’s it received a rating of 9E, which is what a basic starting fire department typically receives. Over the years the improvements in apparatus, equipment, facilities, training, and membership allowed us to receive a Class 5 rating. In 2018 we completed our most recent inspection to improve our rating to 4 / 9E. These rating are established through an inspections program that is generally on 5 year cycles. This new rating should save the homeowners and business owners of our district hundreds of dollars each year on their insurance premiums, and provide a level of comfort knowing we strive for a top-quality level of professional and personal customer service.
If you are interested in volunteering, but are not sure about where to go or what you could do, please feel free to stop by one of our weekly meetings on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. to talk with us. Just because you may not feel comfortable with some aspects of what we do, it does not mean we may not have somewhere you can help us. We are a fully functioning Non-Profit business. Whether it’s firefighting or business, your talents and expertise can be utilized and will be greatly appreciated.
The North Transylvania Fire Rescue Department is always seeking new sources of funding to further the training of the members, and the equipment available. We welcome and appreciate all donations, whether monetary or for training needs, (i.e. old cars, equipment, or houses), and your contribution is always tax-deductible. Please contact us for more information.
