In the firefighter world, they're called apparatus. To the general public, they're mostly just called fire trucks.

ENGINE 13: This engine carries 1,000 gallons of water and is capable of pumping 1,250 gallons of water per minute. This is the first out fire pumper for fire calls
in our district. It is fully equipped with all types of firefighting
equipment.

TANKER 13: Our tanker carries 3,000 gallons of water. It not only responds to provide water on structure fire calls within our district, but it also is our first out for response for mutual aid calls on structure fires.

TRUCK 13: This is our second out engine, and is also qualifies as a tanker. It carries 2,000 gallons of water and is capable of pumping 1,250 gallons of water per minute. It carries a full complement of firefighting equipment including hose and ladders.

SERVICE 13: This is our primary medical response unit. We respond to all medical emergencies in our district and help stabilize patients until the arrival of Transylvania County EMS. This unit carries first aid supplies, oxygen, a defibrillator, and a LUCAS automated compression device.

SQUAD 13: This vehicle is used as our second out medical response vehicle, and to transport firefighters such as when multiple personnel are requested by another department. It is also used for firefighters who are going out of town for training exercises.

ENGINE 13-3: This 4 wheel drive unit is used to respond to fire calls in narrow or hard to access areas, and during inclement weather. It has a good amount of firefighting equipment. It carries 250 gallons of water.

BRUSH 13: This 4 wheel drive unit is used for wildland fires and calls such as trees down in the roadway. It carries 250 gallons of water and wildland
firefighting equipment.

RESCUE 13: This is our first out truck for wrecks, or other technical rescues such as water or high angle. It is equipped with hydraulic 'jaws of life' for gaining access to persons trapped in wrecked vehicles. It also carries ropes, ladders, and general rescue equipment. The back of the truck offers a great command space, with room for a few personnel, maps, and protection from the weather.

RESCUE 13-2: This 4 wheel drive vehicle is used for search and rescue missions, typically in the areas within Pisgah National Forest that are covered by North Transylvania such as Turkey Pen. It also responds to mutual aid search and rescue requests. This vehicle is modified to be an asset on most trails where ATV's or UTV's can go, and provides a weather-protected option for patient transport. It is equipped with medical supplies, light rescue equipment, and is shown with our portable generator trailer attached.
